Social Media is the hottest thing to hit online business building. Many people are using social media to make contacts. Unfortunately, many are using them as a detriment to themselves and their businesses as opposed making money from them. In this blog, I will show you how to make money online using social media to generate quality sales leads.

First, make sure that your personal page on the social media network is professional looking, clean, and uncluttered. Your profile picture should be professional… remember that a picture is worth a thousand words. Present yourself in a positive background… at a park, at a beach, at a lake. Look straight in the camera and smile. Furthermore, the information on your page should be simple and to the point. Write a paragraph or two about yourself and talk about how you can help others. Too much information can often look like chaos to a reader, so stay clear from going on and on about your business opportunity. Remember this is a social media platform… so be social!

Second, offer something of value to people for free! One of the best ways to generate sales leads is to offer something of value for free to others. You can do this by giving away a valuable e-book (remember to check the publishing, resell, distribution rights!), writing a blog filled with information or creating a video that either demonstrates something or provides valuable information. When you provide valuable information that anyone can use in the social media networks, people will come back looking for more. This gives you the posture of a leader… someone to be sought after… and will make people want to get to know you, your product, or your services.

Third, be persistent! Follow up and follow through! I have seen many people strike up a conversation in a social media network, share their business opportunity, not get the sale and move on. Keep your business opportunity out of it when having initial discussions with someone. Take the time to get to know that person and see if YOU really want to do business with THEM. A key tip to remember is most people don’t do business after the first meeting. In fact, most large business deals in corporate America occur after quite a courting period. People want to get to know others first. So be patient… you will not make money after one or two discussions with someone. Build the relationship and keep following up!

Finally, participate in any group or forum discussions offered on the social media network. Get your name out there and show others that you have some knowledge to offer. Again, stay away from just posting your business opportunity everywhere. You will make a name for yourself as a “spammer” and a “nuisance” and risk being banned from the social media network. Start intelligent discussions about tips and tricks for business building or join such discussions with your own knowledge. If people are intrigued by what you have to say, they will visit your profile to see what you are all about (this is why the presentation of your profile is so important!).
